The method involves reflecting and/or permitting to pass through the light by a light surface (4) in a lighting device of a motor vehicle, and accomplishing the structuring of a section (7) of the surface by using a laser beam. The surface is provided with an absorbing medium. A layer that is arranged on the section is removed before or during the structuring of the section, and an additional coating is applied on the section. An independent claim is also included for a lighting device of a motor vehicle.
