A method for identifying an active subscriber (T1...T6) of a number of subscribers in a conference, involves an incoming speech/voice data stream (E1...E5) to flow into the conference communication link from each subscriber (T1...T6) and in which from the incoming speech data streams the outgoing speech data streams (A1...A5) are generated from the ingoing speech data streams to the subscribers (T1...T6). At least one of the data flows (E1-E5;A1-A5) is reanalyzed and on the basis of the analysis it is determined which of the subscriber (T1-T6) is active at the time of the respect analysis and the active subscriber (T1-T6) is displayed/indicated by at least one of the other subscribers (T1-T6). An independent claim is included for an identification device for displaying an active subscriber.
