The sound-absorbing material comprises protein-containing foamed biopolymers, plant fibers or partially mineralized plant fibers and additives. The molded article has an open-pore structure at its edges and within it. The material may also included multivalent alcohols with a boiling point of over 150 deg. C. The material may also include glycerine. The biopolymer may be based on grain flours such as rye flour with a particle size less than 0.5 mm. An independent claim is included for a method of manufacturing sound absorbing materials.
