Apparatus for purifying an impurity-laden gas stream comprises a condenser (2) with a dew point zone (14) in which the impurity condenses or freezes, with an inlet (3) and outlet (4) for the gas stream, an inlet (5) and outlet (6) for coolant, and a system for removing the condensed or frozen impurity from the condenser. An independent claim is also included for purifying an impurity-laden gas stream by heat exchange with a coolant in apparatus as above.
