The roof has at least one roof part (2) mounted on the vehicle body (10) via a roof movement mechanism (3) and movable between open and closed positions. The movement mechanism has a pillar linkage (5) pivotably connected to the vehicle body that can be displaced transversely with respect to the vehicle's longitudinal axis during opening. The pillar linkage is height adjustable and is raised during the opening movement to such an extent that the rotary joint (4a) on the body side on the pillar linkage protrudes beyond the body line (12) and the pillar linkage is displaced sideways.
