First and second holding parts of a cable holder(3) position a cable(8) and a clamping system secures the cable. A cable is arranged between the upper(2a) and lower(2b) parts of an injection molding tool(2). The upper and/or lower tool parts and/or the holder can be moved in a direction perpendicular to the cable length and the cable is moved by the holder in a direction(D) perpendicular to the stated direction. A number of holding parts are attached to first(4) and second(5) endless belts. Both belts pass around diverting rolls(6,7). Several injection tools(2) are arranged along the direction of movement(D) of the holder(3). Each tool can move along the cable length. The lower part(2b) of a tool can be raised by a stroking mechanism onto a cable(8) and the tool upper part(2a) can be lowered onto the tool lower part. Positioners, e.g. prisms, are incorporated in each lower tool part. Injection can occur simultaneously onto cables in several tool cavities. Cables are fed to the injection tools by an automatic system and removed after injection of components by an extractor, preferably a pneumatic ejector. The distance between the two holder parts can be varied. An independent claim is included for a method for injecting components(11) onto a cable(8) in which: a) the cable is located and fixed in a holder(3) comprising two holding parts; b) the holder is positioned between upper and lower tool parts with a section of the cable in a molding cavity of the tool; c) the tool is closed and the component is injected onto the cable.
