The method involves deriving additional steering angle at steerable wheels of a motor vehicle from a current measured vehicle transverse acceleration. An estimated maximum roll angle which is derived from the relevant transverse acceleration is compared with a predetermined marginal roll angle. The difference between the maximum and marginal roll angles is used as an input variable for a controller to adjust the additional steering angle.
