The device has a piston (2) that rotates around its center (3) in housing (1) such that the angles (phi 1, phi 3) between excess flow channels (5, 6) and between the process gas inlet and outlet openings (4, 7) are 120 degrees. The angles (phi 2, phi 4) between the channels and the respective openings are 60 degrees. The channels (5, 6) are connected with a compressor and an expander, respectively. An independent claim is also included for a compound engine including a control device.
