An electrochemical method for decolorizing colored process solutions and waste waters from the textile and dye industries involves electrolyzing the aqueous solution, containing at least 10 g/l of sulfate and/or sulfuric acid (in addition to the dyes and optionally textile auxiliaries), in an electrolysis cell with diamond-coated anodes at a current density of 0.05-0.5 A/cm2, with simultaneous production of peroxodisulfate.
