The instrument has an illuminant (7) e.g. light emitting diode that is integrated in a distal area (2) in an oblong cannula (1). A plate (10) with integrated controller is inserted in the area to accommodate the illuminant of different color, intensity and size. A lens unit or an operating channel is coaxially or eccentrically arranged in the cannula. The cannula and the lens unit are made up of a heat conducting material.
