The method involves increasing and decreasing voltage (U) applied to a piezoelectric actuator in a positive direction. The voltage applied to the piezoelectric actuator is decreased in a negative direction according to the previous voltage decrease. The contraction and expansion of the piezoelectric actuator is effected due to the variation of the voltage in the negative direction. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a fuel injection system of a motor vehicle (B) a storage medium for a controller.
