The method for operating a pneumatic conveyor (1) for powders use groups of jets (15 -17) to blow air transversely through the powder and fluidize it. These are connected by valves (19 - 21) to a by-pass line (11) attached to the main air supply (8). The valves can be adjusted so that they deliver short, high-pressure blasts of air to clear blockages. Independent claims are included for: (A) pneumatic conveyors which can be operated using the method; and (B) the control valves.
