The method involves moving a high-pressure water jet on a portion of a part i.e. drum (10), such that the water jet traverses the part and cuts the part. The cutting jet is diverted or stopped after the cutting jet traverses the part to be cut, by a high-pressure fluid jet that crosses the cutting jet, where the fluid jet is in the form of a cylindrical jet or in the form of a gas or liquid curtain e.g. air or water/oil curtain. The fluid jet is oriented perpendicular to the cutting jet, where pressure of the fluid jet and pressure of the cutting jet are in the order of 2000 bars.
