Method for recognizing untwisting during start-up of a combustion engine comprises determining the rotating direction of the crankshaft during start-up of the engine from the first signal impulse. Untwisting of the crankshaft is detected when the rotating direction of the camshaft is changed using two subsequent signal impulses.
