A three-dimensional fabric structure open on one side is made of flat lace (2), which is joined at the edges (3, 4, 5). It is saturated with conventional commercial finish, drawn over a former and held in position while drying so that the shape is retained when the structure is removed. The fabric can include embroidery (7, 8) and extensions (9) to reinforce the edges and help in shape retention. An independent claim is also included for the corresponding process, including using a negative mold to assist in shaping and the use of hot air or of heating elements within the former to assist in drying.
