The method involves using a roller crusher (4) or hammer crusher in a preliminary step before the grinding mill (5). The crusher has a gap width smaller than or equal to the gap width of the grinding mill behind. The particles are not separated but those larger than the gap width of the mill are crushed and supplied with the passing smaller particles to the material flow to the mill.
