The device has a partially elastic rope (14), whose elastic characteristic is adjustable in such a manner that the weight acting on the elastic rope is compensated. An area of the elastic rope runs horizontally in a working position. The rope`s elastic characteristic is adjustable while adjusting the pre-stressing or length of the rope. The rope includes a fastening device (20), which is designed for holding the weight. An independent claim is also included for a usage of a holding device for assisting the installation work in an aircraft.
