Designed as a reflector lamp (RL), an integrated source (3) of light has an electric power control (31) for generating a suitable flow of radiation. Downstream devices (5,6) generate a preset spectral intensity distribution. Fitted tightly on the RL's light-outlet side, a continuously controllable mechanical brightness control unit (BCU) (4) with an adjusting device (41) triggers the BCU. Independent claims are also included for: (A) A zoom microscope with a zoom system for scanning an object with a transmitted light base; and (B) A method for controlling illumination intensity and spectral intensity distribution in a transmitted light base for examining an object by scanning it with a zoom microscope.
