The driver circuit for an ultrasonic tool has one or more additional piezo elements connected electrically in parallel and mechanically in series to the oscillation generating piezo elements, and at least one electrically controlled switch by which the resonance frequency of the ultrasonic tool can be continuously detuned through periodic short-circuiting and opening of the electric circuit of the additional piezo elements between the fully electrically short-circuited and fully electrically open extremes. An independent claim is included for a method for the operating of one or more ultrasonic tools in which the resonance frequency of one or more ultrasonic tools can be continuously detuned by changing electrical control signals.
