The threshold value for the temperature of the heating element is determined by exhaust system-specific computer model. Cooling agent is used for cooling the engine. Emission control element (4) arranged in engine and reducing agent/oxygen content are used to determine the operating parameters of the engine. Positive temperature coefficient of the heating element is more than 2 parts per thousand for each Kelvin.
