The unit has a serial data input and an serial data output at respective coupling sides (13, 15) for coupling the unit with coupling sides of another detector unit. A control circuit (17) sends data packets to the coupled detector unit independent of a clock signal of a higher-level master unit, and receives the packets from the coupled unit. The packets contain receiving addresses, sending addresses and command identifications. An independent claim is also included for a method for transmission of data between detector units of a detector system.
