Preparation of alloxane-5-hydrazone compound (2) comprises condensation of alloxane compound (1) with hydrazine or its salt in the present of sulfite salt. Preparation of alloxane-5-hydrazone compound of formula (2) comprises condensation of alloxane compound of formula (1) with hydrazine or its salt in the present of sulfite salt. Independent claims are also included for: (1) the preparation of diazobarbituric acid compound of formula (3) comprising oxidizing (2); (2) the preparation of azobarbituric acid of formula (4) comprising reaction of diazobarbituric acid with barbituric acid; and (3) the preparation of a metal complex of (4) with a bivalent metal comprising reaction of (4) with a bivalent metal salt.
