Polyethylene glycol compound (I) (exhibiting a concentration of ethylene oxide of maximally 0.2 ppm) is new. Polyethylene glycol compound (I) of formula R(OCH2CH2)nOH (exhibiting a concentration of ethylene oxide of maximally 0.2 ppm) is new. R : 1-30C alkyl, 2-30C alkenyl or aryl (all substituted with 1-3 linear or 1-12C alkyl) or H; and n : 4-900. An independent claim is also included for the preparation of (I).
