The method involves recording images of underground (U) of a vehicle (2) using a camera (3) in the vehicle, and comparing the recorded images with each other. Vehicle movement is determined based on the comparison, and vehicle speed is determined relative to the underground and based on the vehicle movement. The underground is illuminated under a given angle and a distance between the camera and the underground is determined. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for determining speed of a vehicle.
