The method involves selecting signal parameter, that is stored in a memory device, assigned to a current crankshaft speed. A control signal with the frequency of an engine order is produced based on the selected parameter. The signal is set in relation to the crankshaft phase and a vibration absorber (3) is controlled with the signal for initiating sound characteristics in a vehicle part (2). An independent claim is also included for a system for absorbing vibration of an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle.
