The device has a data memory for receiving of software enabling data. A data interface is linked at a control of a textile machine (10) for data transmission between the memory and a control of the machine. A microcontroller controls the data transmission and or processing of an input or output data. Light emitting diodes are provided for displaying the operating conditions of the software protection device. The data interface is designed for DC-isolation integrated in a data connection of the textile machine. The data memory, micro controller and the data interface are integrated in the common circuit board. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a textile machine with a programmable control (B) a control method for a textile machine.
