The carrier has a body with an antenna coil and a chip module (3). The module is embedded in the body and has an electronic unit arranged on the carrier and connected with the coil by an electrically conducting connection. The connection is formed by contacting arrays and connecting surfaces of the module and the body. The module is fixed to the body by lamination, where the arrays and surfaces are pressed against each other. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a portable data carrier.
