Drying bed for barley, for production of malt for use in brewing, by passing warm air upwards through bed and recycling some air to the bed underside to minimize thermal gradients

A method for drying barley, comprising passing warm air from a first ventilator from below through a first bed of barley on an air-permeable floor and withdrawing a stream of air from the upper side of the bed, some of the air withdrawn from the upper side is recycled to the underside of the bed when the temperature difference between the air stream at the upper side of the bed and the underside of the bed is less than 8 [deg]C, is new. An independent claim is included for apparatus for use in the process, comprising a first container for keeping a first bed of barley, heating for forming a first air streeam and tubing for directing the first stream to the bed of barley, with tubing for recycling the air stream from the upper side of the bed to the underside of the bed, temperature sensors and a control system for valves in the tubing system.
