The wheel has teeth, where the contour of the teeth in an area of a tooth base and tooth flank (1) is recessed close to the base opposite to the contour of a chain roll or the contour of the a sprocket wheel. The shape of a recess results from the contour of the roll, when the roll is rotated in a direction of force acting on the teeth, where the change over of the base to the flank is represented by a level. An independent claim is also included for a method for using a chain.
