The structure has a base unit (2) with a u-shaped cross sectional structure. An opening area (21) of the u-shaped base unit is oriented in an inner space of a motor vehicle. The opening area is covered by a covering part (3) that is arranged over an entire length of the u-shaped area of the base unit. The covering part is firmly connected with the base unit and is arranged at a free end of a side shank. The covering part is formed from metal e.g. aluminium or magnesium or steel or plastic e.g. fiber reinforced composite.
