In a process to regulate the operation of an automotive air compressor associated with vehicle suspension, the compressor is switched on and off in accordance with system pressure and temperature. The switch on/off action is determined using a mathematical model and the work anticipated from the compressor, the anticipated compressor end-temperature (Tend). The compressor is only switched on if the anticipated end temperature is lower than or equal to a threshold temperature Tgrenz.
