The device has a global positioning system (GPS) locating module (12) arranged in a transport unit. The module has a controller area network (CAN) transmitting/receiving unit to transmit location information to control units (2, 3, 4). The module has a unit to create data bus information corresponding to data bus protocol. The control units read the bus information with the identification and/or addresses given by the module. An independent claim is also included for a method for locating a transportation unit.
