The post, preferably made from a strong and weatherproof plastic material in one piece, has two or more fins (10, 10', 11, 11') extending radially from its core for a substantial part of its length, with the core having its smallest transverse dimension greater than the thickness of the fins. The upper part of the post has four fins in a cruciform configuration, while its bottom end is cylindrical and pointed. One or more of the fins has a notch (25) or slot to receive a wire.
