The method involves determining a functional correlation for a force course of a channel passage through a nip point formed by a second cylinder. The functional correlation is pre-defined up to a scaling factor determining the height as a time course for an actuator force time course, and is kept in a control and or regulating device. The vibration or the amplitude is measured during the operation of a point of the cylinder by a sensor. The maximum amplitude created on the roll body is then calculated from the measuring value, and the actuators are controlled by the control and or regulating devices according to the pre-defined actuator force time course. An independent claim is included for a device.
