The apparatus has a main body (32) with a receptacle (33) having a surface (34) to receive the sample holder (22). A fixing device (41) holds the sample holder in place. A press tool (51) presses shaving of the metal to be analyzed into a receptacle (39) of the sample holder (22) to form the test body.
