A method for producing a packaging material or for packaging a food product, in particular a confectionary product, comprises the steps of: covering at least a first and a second surface portion of a substrate with a sealant, covering a third surface portion adjacent the first surface portion with a coating, a bonding force between the coating and the substrate having a first value, covering only a part of a fourth surface portion adjacent the second surface portion with an adhesive, a bonding force between the adhesive and the substrate as well as the coating, respectively, having a second and a third value, respectively, both the second and the third value being higher than the first value, and a colour of the coating being different than a colour of the third and/or fourth surface portion and/or the adhesive. A machine for producing a packaging material or for packaging a food product, in particular a confectionary product, comprises: a device for covering at least a first and a second surface portion of a substrate with a sealant, a device for covering a third surface portion adjacent the first surface portion with a coating, a bonding force between the coating and the substrate having a first value, a device for covering only a part of a fourth surface portion adjacent the second surface portion with an adhesive. A packaging material is produced by the above method and/or device.
