The air purifier has an air inlet and air outlet (12) on opposite sides of a housing (10) in which is fitted at least one electric fan. A first filter element is fitted in the air inlet, whereby the filter element comprises a wire cloth which is suitable to remove solid matter from the air streams which flow through the air inlet to the air outlet. A second filter element is fitted in the housing between the first filter element and the electric fan. The second filter element contains activated charcoal which can removed germs from the air streams which flow through the first filter element to the air outlet.
