The device has damping units (6,7) at an uprising side of articles, where the units are designed as hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders. The units are arranged at legs of a table or a chair and are interconnected with each other. A storage unit is provided for the accommodation of the units. A damping valve is provided for the change of hardness and/or damping of the units. The units are impinged with compressed air.
