Hospital or care bed has at least a low voltage electric drive (2). The voltage is provided by a transformer that has its primary side connected to the electric mains. An accumulator (5) is connected between the transformer (9) and the drive and is configured so that it only applies power to the drive when there is a charging voltage applied to it by the transformer. The means for controlling power application to the bed are supplied by a logic circuit with an AND gate for activating a control function.
