A shunting vehicle for moving wagons on roads or on rails is supported on at least four tires (4) which run on the tops of the rails or on the road. Each wheel is fitted with a retracting guide (16) which is positioned at the inside or outside edge of the respective rail to track the vehicle on the rails. The guides are retracted for road travel. The guides can be rotating rods or rotating discs with a minimum of friction grip with the rails.
