The apparatus has a partial hollow-cylindrical reformer (1) for converting carbureted hydrogen gas and water into hydrogen and reformer-products such as carbon dioxide and Carbon monoxide. A catalyst layer (13) is attached at an end of the reformer for reduction the carbon monoxide. The reformer has a supply line (3) for supplying fluid operating medium. The line is provided with a heat exchanger (4) for preheating the medium. The exchanger is arranged at a housing unit (5) that accommodates a pre-combustion chamber (2), where the housing unit is designed as a cover of a housing (6).
