The hydraulic control for the clutch of a mechanical press has an electrical pressure sensor (6) which detects the pressure operating on the hydraulic cylinder (61). A regulating electronic circuit (60) receives a pressure signal from the sensor. A regulating valve (40) is an electrically controlled proportional valve operated on the difference between actual and preset pressure values.
