The invention provides an efficient method for the resolution of (R)-(+)-(formula (I)) and (S)-(-)(formula (II))-enantiomers of amlodipine, where the chiral reagent for resolution is tartaric acid and the chiral auxiliary reagent for resolution is deuterated dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO6).
