An air cleaner comprises a reservoir (1) containing water (3) with added hydrosoluble essential oils (4) and an immersed pump (2) which feeds the liquid up through a tube (7) to form a jet (6) or mushroom fountain. The mixture of water and essential oils drops back into the reservoir, and the resultant agitation disperses the active ingredients of the essential oils into the surrounding air.
