Potato (A), having a greater yield of tubers than non-transformed potatoes grown under the same conditions, includes a gene (I) encoding a DNA-binding protein (II) of the Dof family. Independent claims are also included for: (1) similar potato (A1) having a higher content of starch in the tubers and higher starch content per plant; (2) descendants of (A) or (A1); (3) producing (A) or (A1) by introducing (I) into a potato; and (4) producing starch from the tubers of (A), (A1) or their descendants.
