Process and device for characterizing a damage of the structure making use of the moire ombre.le method comprises the steps of applying to the surface of a structure to control, a grid, directing a light source towards the grid so as to create a shadow on the structure, and to record an image of the observed pattern, the reconstruction of a graphic representation of the recorded image and to characterize the damage to the basis of said représentation.le device for implementing the method consists of a support (2) comprising a grid (1), a light source (3) and an image acquisition device (8). Once the recorded images, the invention makes use of the processing means which make it possible to determine the spatial position, in particular the height of each point of the image and therefore of the observed surface.
