The method involves reducing an output of a fuel cell from an initial output to a final output. The final output is determined in a manner that an initial electrical power provided by the fuel cell with the initial output is approximately equal to a final electrical power provided by the fuel cell with the final output. The fuel cell output is reduced only when there is an excess production of reformate of the fuel cell. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle having an electricity generator implementing a fuel cell temperature increasing method.
