The device has a flywheel (2) mounted on a connecting unit with two outer and inner axial portions (37, 39). The flywheel is connected to a ring gear (7) mounted on the connecting unit by an outer antifriction bearing (42), and meshed with a drive pinion mounted on the connecting unit by an inner antifriction bearing (50). The bearings (42, 50) are mounted outside and inside the portions (37, 39), respectively.
