The block has a water chamber (16) surrounding cylinders (14), and including an inlet port (18) and openings to assure circulation of a cooling liquid. A projection (60) is formed in the chamber such that the liquid circulates along a predetermined path between the port and openings. The projection has a vertical side (64) situated on a side of the port, and an inclined side (66) situated on side opposite to the port. An independent claim is also included for a method of making a cylinder block for an internal combustion engine.
