The starter has a drive sleeve and a pinion (3) constituting a starter drive assembly. Sliding movement of the sleeve and the pinion on a shaft (4) is controlled by a lever (8) whose one end is connected to the shaft and another end is articulated to a piston penetrating in core axis of a solenoid switch (12) with electric connections. The switch is placed parallel to the shaft and on the same side as the assembly relative to the lever. The drive sleeve and the pinion slide between a rest position and a meshing position of the pinion with a ring gear (7) of a flap of an internal combustion engine. The electric connections connect the solenoid switch to a contact and to a battery.
